CHS341 – Primary Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Care

This course provides foundational knowledge and clinical skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of common ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions seen in primary healthcare settings. Students learn the anatomy and physiology of ENT organs, principles of otoscopy, rhinoscopy, and laryngoscopy, and management of prevalent ENT disorders like otitis media, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, and tonsillitis. Emphasis is placed on early detection, patient education, and referral strategies to prevent complications such as hearing loss and airway obstruction.

The practical component includes hands-on training in basic ENT examination techniques and community-based assessment of ENT health issues. Students will also engage with case scenarios to build clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. The course highlights the role of nurses and community health workers in ENT care delivery, particularly in underserved or rural populations where access to specialists may be limited.
