This course introduces students to the fundamental principles, philosophy, and practice of cooperative organizations. It explores the origin, nature, and development of the cooperative movement both globally and in Nigeria, highlighting the values of self-help, mutual assistance, and democratic management. Students will examine the different types of cooperatives—such as agricultural, consumer, credit, and marketing cooperatives—and their role in promoting economic empowerment and community development. The course also covers cooperative legislation, structure, and management, providing students with an understanding of how cooperatives contribute to national growth, poverty alleviation, and rural development.
