A continuation of CHM302, this course explores advanced topics in polymer chemistry, including polymer degradation, recycling, and environmental impacts. Students examine the design of specialty polymers with desired mechanical, thermal, or electrical properties for use in biomedical devices, packaging, and electronics.

Synthesis techniques like ring-opening polymerization and advanced characterization methods such as GPC (gel permeation chromatography) and DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) are covered. The course prepares students for research and industry roles in materials science and sustainable polymer development.
