BIO311MYCOLOGY

BIO311 – Mycology explores the biology, classification, and ecological roles of fungi. The course covers fungal morphology, reproduction, physiology, and interactions with other organisms, including mutualism, parasitism, and decomposition. Emphasis is placed on the importance of fungi in agriculture, industry, biotechnology, and medicine, such as their role in antibiotic production and food fermentation.

Laboratory sessions offer hands-on experience in fungal culturing, spore identification, and microscopic analysis, enhancing students’ understanding of fungal diversity and structure. Pathogenic fungi and their impact on human health and crops are also explored. Students completing this course will be well-equipped for careers or research in microbiology, botany, environmental biology, or biotechnology.
