BIO208SEEDLESS PLANTS
BIO208 – Seedless Plants explores the structure, classification, and reproduction of non-seed-bearing plants, including algae, bryophytes (mosses and liverworts), and pteridophytes (ferns and their allies). Students learn about their evolutionary significance, life cycles, and ecological importance, especially in soil formation, nutrient cycling, and as pioneers in habitat colonization.
The course combines theory and hands-on lab work, giving students the opportunity to observe different plant structures and adaptations under microscopes. Seedless plants offer a window into the early evolution of terrestrial flora, making this course essential for understanding the transition from aquatic to land-based life and for appreciating plant biodiversity and conservation.
