CHM307 – Atomic and Molecular Structure and Symmetry

This course investigates the quantum mechanical basis of atomic and molecular structure. Topics include Schrödinger’s equation, molecular orbitals, electronic configurations, symmetry elements and operations, and group theory as it applies to chemistry.

Understanding molecular symmetry and structure is critical for interpreting spectroscopy, bonding theories, and predicting molecular behavior. The course strengthens theoretical foundations needed for computational chemistry and crystallography.
