CHM414PHOTOCHEMISTRY AND PERICYCLIC REACTIONS

CHM414 – Photochemistry and Pericyclic Reactions

This course explores the chemistry of light-induced reactions and symmetry-controlled thermal reactions. Students learn about electronic excitation, photophysical processes (e.g., fluorescence, phosphorescence), and photochemical transformations.

The pericyclic reactions segment includes electrocyclic reactions, sigmatropic rearrangements, and cycloadditions, using Woodward-Hoffmann rules. The course links fundamental principles with applications in organic synthesis, materials science, and photodynamic therapy.
