BIO408SOIL ECOLOGY
BIO408 – Soil Ecology delves into the interactions between soil organisms and their environment, emphasizing the biological and ecological aspects of soil systems. The course covers soil microflora and fauna, nutrient cycling, soil formation, and the role of soil organisms in maintaining fertility and structure. Special attention is given to the microbial processes driving carbon and nitrogen cycles.
Students will conduct soil sampling, microbial culturing, and physico-chemical analyses to understand soil health and productivity. By connecting soil ecology to agriculture, forestry, and climate change, the course prepares students for work in sustainable land management, environmental consultancy, and ecological research.
